Steel and metal offcuts cover everything from reo bar and mesh through to structural sections, gal purlins, RHS and SHS tubing, sheet metal, and roofing steel. Fabrication shops and builders finish jobs with drops and end-cuts that are useless for the original spec but perfect for someone starting smaller.
Common finds: SHS and RHS in 50×50 and 75×75 for gates and frames, C-purlins, angle iron in 3–6mm, black steel plate offcuts, galvanised sheet, expanded and weld mesh, gutter and downpipe stock. Reo bar surplus (N12/N16) from concrete jobs. Occasionally aluminium sections and stainless.
Steel holds value. Cut lengths sell fast because a fresh mill length costs a lot more than someone's drop. Check condition for surface rust (light is fine, deep pitting weakens the section), and whether the piece is straight — bent RHS is usually a hard no.
Pickup only for anything over 3m — most utes won't take it home unless the seller is close. Freight quotes on long structural sections are worth getting up front.
